10 Shed Buster Tips For A Cleaner Home

Dogs shed to get rid of old, damaged or extra hair.  They get extra hair in the winter to help insulate themselves and shed this extra hair in the spring/summer.  They will also shed any broken or damaged hair, if the skin is irritated by things in their surroundings.  Such as allergies caused by environmental conditions, food allergies or fleas.

1)    Brush your Pet regularly.

2)    Feed an appropriate high quality dog food.

3)   Fatty Acid Supplements (Omega 3, fish oils & Omega 6, sunflower & safflower oil, soybean oil).

4)   Cover Furniture and Car Seats.

5)    Control Allergies and Fleas.

6)    Vacuum often to remove newly shed hair keeping irritations down.

7)    Get you dog Groomed regularly.  A clean coat will be healthier & rejuvenate a lackluster hair coat.

8)    Regular check ups can help as many disease affect the skin and hair coat.

9)    Use the right brush:  slicker brushes, shedding blades-most pets need more than 1 type.

10)   Be diligent about removing pet hair before it gets entangled in the fibers of the upholstery.

Hy-Vee Brand Pet Food Recall

Hy-Vee brand pet food from West Des Moines Iowa is recalling 3 different "Best By" dates of their pet food.  Food produced at a Kansas City plant operated by Pro-Pet, LLC has elevated levels of a chemical commonly found in corn.  Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring by product from growth of Aspergillus Flavus (fungus) can be harmful to pets if consumed in significant quantities.  Symptoms are sluggishness or lethargy, reluctant to eat, vomit, yellow tint to the eyes or gums or diarrhea.

The recalled products carry three different “Best By” dates and were distributed to Hy-Vee stores in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin between October 26, 2012 and January 11, 2013.
