Have a Safe and Happy Holiday Season With Your Pet.

During the holiday season we often give our homes a magical transformation.  We need to keep our pets in mind during this time.  They do not understand that those ornaments on the tree are not real balls to play fetch with or the tinsel is not a string of grass.  These can be real danger for your pets.

Chewed ornaments can cut your pet not only on the outside but throughout their entire insides from the mouth, throat, stomach and through to the intestines.  Tinsel can become lodged in their esophagus and twisted around intestines.  No one wants their love ones to have an emergency vet visit and possible surgery.  Some holiday plants are also toxic to your pet, if you are unsure please ask your florist or veterinary office.  Please be very mindful when planning your decorations both inside your home and out.

Remember to be careful sharing table scraps with your pets. No onions, grapes, raisins, chocolate, alcoholic beverages or any foods high in fat, sodium and/or sugar. Some things you can share with your pet are a small piece of cooked turkey or chicken no skin, bones or gravy.  Raw carrots and apples are good for your dog, but everything in moderation.

Don't let your pet get lost in the crowd of the holiday rush.  Gatherings can be a joyous time for us with family and friends visiting, but this can be a very stressful time for your pets.  Large groups can be overwhelming making nervous dogs even more anxious.  Many dogs get lost during this time with people coming in and out of the doors so please remind guests before your party to make sure the doors are closed properly so no pets get out.

Please Have a Happy and Safe Holiday Season!
